‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ sets domestic box office preview record with $72 million

Sony and Marvel's "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" has shattered the domestic box office preview record with an incredible $72 million in ticket sales, surpassing the previous record set by "Avengers: Endgame" in 2019. The unprecedented demand for the latest Marvel epic is evident in the high number of early access screenings and Thursday night previews.

Paul Dergarabedian, head of marketplace trends at Rentrak, commented on the unprecedented opening, highlighting the massive enthusiasm among moviegoers. The film is expected to bring in around $270 million domestically over its debut weekend, though some analysts foresee even greater earnings. "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" is projected to surpass "No Way Home" in domestic openings, though it will likely fall short of "Endgame" which dominated the box office in 2019.

Despite the lack of Imax release and premium large format screenings, the film will still benefit from premium offerings by AMC, Regal, Cinemark, and other regional players. With the summer box office down 9% compared to 2019, "Brand New Day" provides a much-needed boost heading into the fall movie season.
