Rivian spinoff Also to start delivering e-bikes after months of delays

Rivian's spinoff, Also, will commence delivering its first e-bikes to customers next week, following months of delays stemming from unexplained supply chain issues. The company informed TechCrunch that the Launch Edition of its TM-B e-bike, priced at $4,500, has begun shipping from its manufacturer to its U.S. warehouse. The firm anticipates delivering all Launch Edition bikes between next week and September.

Also originated as a secret project within Rivian in 2022, initiated by CEO RJ Scaringe who began exploring an e-bike to complement his lineup of electric vehicles for outdoor enthusiasts. After a few years of development, including a collaboration with Jony Ive’s design firm LoveFrom, Rivian spun out Also as a separate company in March 2025, receiving $105 million in funding from Eclipse.

The initial design for the TM-B was unveiled in October 2024, with a projected launch date for spring 2026. However, supply chain complications have forced Rivian to push the delivery timeline to July. The primary reason for the revised summer schedule is the global shortage of raw materials and electronic components, which has temporarily hampered the manufacturing ramp-up and delayed the first delivery dates beyond the original spring window.

Rivian's engineering and production teams are striving to mitigate these constraints without compromising safety or quality. While the company has not specified which components are causing the delay, it remains committed to minimizing these issues. In addition to the TM-B, Also aims to develop four-wheel pedal-assist cargo vehicles for Amazon and an autonomous delivery vehicle for DoorDash.

Nevertheless, the primary focus at the moment is on completing the delivery of the e-bikes while also addressing the challenges associated with customer service, such as frequent communication breakdowns and unfulfilled promises regarding shipping timelines.
