MLB trade rumors on Twins, Red Sox, Tarik Skubal, and more ahead of Monday’s deadline

As the 2026 MLB Trade Deadline approaches, the sports world is abuzz with rumors and speculation involving several teams and key players. The deadline is set for Monday, August 3, at 6:00 p.m. Eastern time.

The Miami Marlins, who have shown improvement recently, are open to offers on several controllable bats, including shortstop Otto Lopez, 2B Xavier Edwards, and OF Heriberto Hernández. However, the club is also contemplating trading their catcher, Liam Hicks, due to Joe Mack's emergence. Some players, such as Sandy Alcantara, Max Meyer, and Eury Pérez, are off-limits.

The Minnesota Twins, on the other hand, are actively seeking to improve their roster and are considered buyers at the deadline. General Manager Jeremy Zoll has stated that the team is optimistic about their chances and is actively pursuing additions, particularly in the bullpen.

The catching market is heating up, with six teams, including the Boston Red Sox, Yankees, Rays, White Sox, Rangers, and Dodgers, reportedly looking for help at the position. However, there may not be enough quality catchers available, as only a handful are on the trade block.

Among potential targets, Ryan Jeffers, who is on an expiring contract, and Hunter Goodman from the Colorado Rockies, who is under club control for the next three years, are being considered. Baltimore Orioles' Liam Hicks is another option, but trading him would mean conceding the AL Wild Card race. The Red Sox, who have emerged from a rough start, are also looking to bolster their roster, having already acquired infielder Curtis Mead from the Washington Nationals.

Other potential targets include Jeremy Peña from Houston, Otto Lopez from Miami, and possibly CJ Abrams from Washington.
