Glasgow Commonwealth Games: Gold and records for Fiji's weightlifter Rainibogi

Fiji's weightlifter Taniela Rainibogi claimed gold in the men's 110kg category at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. He set Commonwealth Games records by lifting 170kg in the snatch and 208kg in the clean and jerk, totaling 378kg. England's Cyrille Tchatchet II finished second with a total of 374kg, while Canada's Xavier Lusignan secured bronze with 356kg.

Tonga's Joshua Uikilifi Jr. placed fourth, 25kg shy of a medal. Vanuatu's Thomas Wilbur and Samoa's Jack Opeloge did not finish the competition. Fiji's head coach, Henry Elder, attributed their success to overcoming numerous obstacles and the faithfulness of God. In weightlifting, New Zealand's David Liti won gold in the men's +110kg division.

In track and field, Cook Islands' Max Teuruaa is competing in the men's decathlon, while PNG's Scholastica Herman and Adrine Monagi participated in the women's mile and 100m hurdles, respectively. However, neither progressed further. PNG's Lakona Gerega finished 15th in the men's javelin, and Tuvalu's Usufono Eneli 17th in that event, failing to qualify for the final.

Nauru's Jonathan-Deiwea Detageouwa placed 10th in the men's shot put, and Tonga's Penisimani Taeiloa had a no mark result, indicating an invalid trial. The Tonga Tala have now lost four out of their five games, losing to Malawi 55-49.
