Surf Legend Ricardo Bocão’s Enduring Legacy in Rocinha [OBITUARY]

Ricardo Ramos, affectionately known as "Bocão," dedicated over three decades to founding and leading the Rocinha Surf School Association in Rio de Janeiro. His legacy is defined by his tireless efforts to promote surfing and foster social inclusion within the community. The instructor, surfer, and resident of Roupa Suja passed away on June 28 after a five-day search by firefighters, fellow surfers, and community members.

Bocão's impact extended beyond teaching surfers; he also restored, loaned, and donated boards to those unable to afford their own, ensuring access to the sport for favela youth. He emphasized that sports should complement, not replace, education, often encouraging children to prioritize their studies before hitting the waves.
