Aweroro denies bribery allegations after 3SC exit

Former Shooting Stars coach Nurudeen Aweroro has denied allegations of bribery, according to a report by PUNCH Sports Extra. The accusations reportedly contributed to the club terminating his contract before the beginning of the 2026/27 season. Shooting Stars parted ways with Aweroro by mutual agreement after just one season, during which he led the team to a third-place finish in the Nigeria Premier Football League.

During an interview on a Yoruba sports programme, Aweroro insisted that any player alleging he received money from them should present evidence, as he argued their claims were different from instances where players sought to show appreciation with gifts. Aweroro also mentioned that he had prayed for one player experiencing a goal drought and advised him to send the money to the fans instead.

He claimed to have brought Alade Balogun from Ikorodu City and questioned him about any financial favors, to which the player responded in the negative. Aweroro acknowledged that his demanding work schedule took a toll on him, as his blood pressure reached 169 during his tenure. The club has now invited former Rangers coach Imama Amapakabo and former Super Eagles assistant coach Salisu Yusuf to potentially take over as their new head coach.

Shooting Stars face Inter Lagos in the opening match of the 2026/27 NPFL season on August 28, followed by a match against CS Sfaxien in the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round.
