"account": "Benjamin Alire Sáenz, a distinguished author and poet who garnered acclaim for his works exploring Latino sexuality and life on the U.S.-Mexico border, has passed away at the age of 71, according to his publisher Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing. He was the first Latino to ever win the prestigious PEN/Faulkner prize.\n\nSáenz was born in Old Picacho, New Mexico, and later abandoned his Catholic priesthood to openly identify as gay. His most celebrated novel, \"Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe,\" published in 2012, follows the blossoming romance between two Mexican-American boys and earned him significant recognition, including a Stonewall Honors Book Award and a Lambda Literary Award.\n\nRenowned playwright Lin-Manuel Miranda, who narrated the audio version of Sáenz's work and played a role in producing the 2023 film adaptation, expressed his grief over the author's death on Instagram, referring to him as \"maestro.\" The novel's theme of same-sex love prompted temporary removal from a school district in Granbury, Texas, and bans in Russia and Belarus.\n\nOther notable works by Sáenz include the sequel to \"Aristotle and Dante,\" the poetry collection \"The Book of What Remains,\" and several adult novels such as \"In Perfect Light\" and \"Names on a Map.\"",
