"account": "Phillip Rivers, the former Indianapolis Colts quarterback, is set to become the head football coach at North Carolina State University, according to reports from The Athletic. Dave Doeren, the previous NC State coach, was dismissed last month. Sources, including Bruce Feldman and David Ubane, confirm the news. Jonathan Jones, reporting on November 8, 2026, highlighted that Rivers was considering head-coaching opportunities in the NFL during the early 2026 offseason. He re-joined the NFL last season to lead the Colts after Daniel Jones was injured and suffered a season-ending injury. Prior to NC State, Rivers served as the head coach at St. Michael Catholic High School in Alabama. His son, Gunner Rivers, who plays quarterback, will join NC State. Rivers played in the NFL for 18 seasons, primarily with the Chargers, but also coached the Colts twice, leading them to the playoffs in 2020. Known for his exceptional skills, Rivers has been named to eight Pro Bowls.",
