"account": "Veteran Nollywood actor Nkem Owoh, also known as Osuofia, has clarified his earlier comments on the origins of Nigeria’s home-video industry, asserting that Yoruba filmmakers, not Nollywood, were the pioneers. This clarification came during an appearance on the show \"Curiosity Made Me Ask,\" hosted by comedian Adebayo Abidemi. The actor addressed a question about his previous claim that Yoruba people were responsible for starting Nollywood, rather than the Igbo community. Osuofia made the statement while responding to the interviewer's suggestion that the Igbo had initiated the industry, particularly with the 1992 Igbo-language film \"Living in Bondage,\" which laid the foundation for Nollywood. Osuofia pointed out that the term \"Nollywood\" did not exist when he and his colleagues began making films, and it was only adopted later through discussions among industry stakeholders. He acknowledged the significant contributions of Yoruba filmmakers such as Hubert Ogunde and Adebayo Papa in popularizing home-video productions in Nigeria. The veteran actor emphasized that while Yoruba did not start Nollywood, they did start the home-video tradition, highlighting the cultural and historical significance of Yoruba film and theater figures like Ogunde and Papa in shaping Nigeria’s cinematic landscape.",
