"account": "Nigeria's bustling metropolis, Lagos, has been listed as the 27th most dangerous city globally in the 2026 Numbeo Crime Index. Positioned just ahead of the Syrian capital Damascus, the Southeast African city's crime index of 68.8 places it in the high-risk category. This marks a spotlight on the growing urban security concerns faced by Lagos, Africa's largest city and a key commercial hub. The ranking, published by the Serbia-based Numbeo data platform, is based on crowd-sourced public perceptions of crime, safety and other risk factors. Notably, Lagos surpasses major cities such as New Orleans, San Juan, and Santo Domingo across the Americas. The index, scored from 0 to 100, classifies cities with scores above 60 as high-risk and those above 80 as very high-risk. While Numbeo's data is derived from users' online surveys, it highlights the pressing need for improved policing, intelligence gathering, and response strategies to tackle the persistent security threats in Nigeria's commercial nerve centre.",
