"account": "Paris, AP — Former tennis star Gaël Monfils will continue his career as the captain of France's Davis Cup team, according to the national federation. Monfils announced his decision on Saturday, following his recent retirement from professional play. The 40-year-old, widely regarded as a beloved figure in the sport, had been anticipated to conclude his career at the Paris Masters this week. However, his plans changed when he announced the dissolution of his marriage to Ukrainian tennis star Elina Svitolina. Monfils participated in the 2014 Davis Cup final, securing France's sole point and ultimately defeating Roger Federer to win the team's only victory, a 3-1 loss against Switzerland. Speaking in a statement, Monfils expressed immense pride in assuming the role of team captain, stating that the blue shirt holds great significance for him. France will commence its upcoming Davis Cup campaign in February, supported by former players Gilles Simon and Richard Gasquet, as declared by the federation. Ten-time champion France last triumphed in the Davis Cup in 2017.",
