"account": "Thomas Markle, father of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, appeared in court on Friday over allegations of possessing child sex abuse material. The 82-year-old was arrested in Florida after federal authorities searched two storage units he had rented in Los Angeles for nearly two decades. Markle faces one count of possessing indecent images of children, according to the US Department of Justice (DoJ). The court hearing lasted for 30 minutes, during which charges were read by federal prosecutor Courtenay Derry. Markle, who appeared in a wheelchair and was escorted by two US Marshals, donned black trousers and a black T-shirt. He was ordered to submit to home detention at an assisted living facility in Florida and electronic monitoring. No plea was entered, and an arraignment date in California will be set at a later time. FBI Director Kash Patel stated that authorities acted swiftly in arresting Markle and emphasized the FBI's commitment to protecting children from predators. The FBI seized approximately 78 items from the storage units, including film negatives, slides, and books allegedly containing child sex abuse material. Markle has denied the allegations, calling them \"sick lies.\" His half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr., handed over four boxes of alleged relevant materials to Philippine police last month. The Metropolitan Police in London received a letter in 2019 containing claims against Markle Sr. outside the UK, which the force has referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IPOC) over its handling. The Duchess of Sussex, who has been estranged from her father since 2018, expressed her distress over the news.",
