"account": "Pope Leo XIV expressed pride in being an American and participating in the U.S. midterm elections, which saw the Democrats gain control of Congress, as a rejection of President Donald Trump's policies. While on his way to Latin America for a 12-day tour, the pope declined to comment on the election outcome, but confirmed he had submitted a mail-in ballot from Chicago, as stated by the Vatican. The Vatican emphasized Leo's belief in the rights and duties of citizens to participate in democratic processes, noting he also voted while residing in Peru. Leo, who has a history with cancer, confirmed his recent surgery to remove a lung tumor and credited his recovery to \"Trusting God, good doctors, good surgeons, and overall I think a healthy lifestyle.\"",
