"summary": "The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kenya has welcomed the 200-year prison sentence handed to Paul Nthenge Mackenzie, the founder of the Good News International Church, for the deaths of 191 people during the Shakahola tragedy. The agency praised the ruling as a significant milestone in the pursuit of justice for victims and their families, emphasizing the importance of thorough investigations, forensic expertise, and evidence-led prosecutions in holding those responsible accountable. Mackenzie's co-accused also received lengthy prison sentences for their roles in the case, with the sentences structured to run consecutively between murder by starvation and direct homicide categories. The sentencing comes after a major investigation into the deaths linked to Mackenzie's teachings, which led to the discovery of mass graves in Shakahola Forest, where followers had practiced extreme fasting.",
