"summary": "Liquor shops in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and several other Indian states will remain closed on Diwali 2026, with the dry day scheduled for Sunday, November 8. The prohibition extends to government-run, private, and model liquor shops, bars, and restaurants, with regular establishments allowed to serve food and non-alcoholic beverages. However, public bar areas must remain closed, even where a hotel exemption applies. Special licences permit four and five-star hotels to serve alcohol to in-house guests through room service. Other states, including Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and others, will also observe the dry day on the same date.",
