"account": "Democratic Socialist Nithya Raman defied expectations to defeat incumbent Democratic Mayor Karen Bass in Los Angeles' recent mayoral election. Raman, a first-time candidate affiliated with the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), secured 52% of the vote compared to Bass's 48%. The two have sparred over issues like city corruption and economic inequality throughout the campaign. Raman's victory marks a significant shift in the city's political landscape as she prepares to lead Los Angeles, the nation's second-largest city, ahead of the 2028 Olympics. Bass, the first Black woman and first female mayor of Los Angeles, conceded defeat and pledged a smooth transition of power.",
