"account": "Democratic socialists will soon be leading three major U.S. cities, following Nithya Raman's victory in the Los Angeles mayoral race. Raman, a progressive candidate, defeated incumbent Mayor Karen Bass, who received 47.9% of the vote. Raman, who will be the first Asian American to lead Los Angeles, expressed her gratitude towards the outgoing mayor and pledged to work together for a better future. This win is part of a growing trend of Democratic socialist victories in recent years, including Zohran Mamdani's win in New York City and Janeese Lewis George's win in Washington, D.C. Despite endorsements from political heavyweights like Kamala Harris and Gavin Newsom, Raman faced criticism for her handling of the wildfires last year. Her victory highlights the increasing influence of the progressive wing of the Democratic party, as they continue to advocate for progressive policies such as affordable housing and better tenant protections.",
