"account": "Former Costa Rican Vice President Rebeca Grynspan extended her lead in the race to become the next United Nations Secretary-General on Thursday. During a closed-door straw poll, Grynspan received 12 \"encourage\" votes, three \"discourage\" votes, and no \"no opinion\" votes. This marked an improvement from the previous round where she received 11 \"encourage\" votes. Latvia's UN Ambassador Sanita Pavļuta-Deslandes confirmed the ballot had taken place but withheld the results. The 15-member council is currently working to select a successor to Antonio Guterres, whose second five-year term ends in December. Argentina's Rafael Grossi, the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, placed second with nine \"encourage\" votes. Guyana's Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett followed with 8 \"encourage\" votes. The UAE's Lana Nusseibeh received 7 \"encourage\" votes, placing her fourth in the rankings. Turkey's Feridun Sinirlioglu, whose late nomination complicated the contest, received 3 \"encourage\" votes in his first appearance. Russia suggested they could consider candidates from outside Latin America if none of the region's nominees secure enough support in informal Security Council votes.",
