"account": "A 21-year-old Muslim man named Aliff Daniel Adli pleaded guilty to performing non-Islamic rituals in a Selangor court, sparking controversy. He, along with his mother Rohizayanti Ramli, 52, and sister Nur Ranea Ezreen Adli, 19, participated in a public declaration of repentance, or istitabah, organized by the Selangor Islamic religious department (Jais) at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque in Shah Alam. Aliff's guilty plea occurred on Jan 24, 2024, at the Gombak Barat shariah lower court for deviant worship, which included handling religious artifacts from another faith, practicing body piercing rituals, and kneeling with hands clasped against his chest in front of a statue at a Batu Caves temple. Judge Faizal Habib sentenced Aliff to three months of rehabilitation at Pusat Pemurnian Akidah Baitul Iman in Ulu Yam. The offence was punishable by a RM3,000 fine, imprisonment for up to two years, or both.",
