"account": "The 2026 midterm elections in the United States have seen the Republican Party suffer a major defeat, with Vice President JD Vance blaming the war in Iran for the party's poor performance. In a post on his X account, Vance stated that many supporters of President Donald Trump who previously backed the Trump-Vance ticket in 2024 switched allegiance to the Democrats due to dissatisfaction with the ongoing conflict. Despite encouraging turnout numbers, some Republican voters were reportedly unhappy and chose not to vote for the party. Vance acknowledged that the party's failure to effectively communicate its economic policies, especially on inflation and the cost of living, may have contributed to the loss. However, he emphasized that the primary reason for the Republican defeat was the war, as well as concerns over America's foreign policy and its relationship with Israel. Democrats capitalized on this opportunity, seizing control of Congress as the Republicans suffered a significant midterm rout.",
