"account": "US ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, is set to embark on his inaugural visit to Jammu & Kashmir on Wednesday. As the 27th US ambassador to India and the country’s special envoy for South and Central Asia, Gor is expected to engage in discussions with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Reports indicate that Gor will hold his meeting with Omar at his Gupkar residence in the afternoon.\n\nGor is scheduled to depart for Ladakh on Thursday, though it remains uncertain whether he will meet Ladakh's Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, who is currently in New Delhi and is expected to return to Leh on August 22nd. While US diplomats have made several visits to Kashmir in recent years, this particular trip carries additional significance due to Gor's dual role as special envoy to South and Central Asia.\n\nFormer minister and PDP spokesperson Naeem Akhtar highlighted the importance of Gor's visit, noting that his special envoy role adds weight to the occasion. This sentiment is further underscored by the fact that, in 2024, a US diplomatic delegation had previously met Omar Abdullah, then the Vice-President of the National Conference, at his residence. The delegation also included meetings with Peoples Conference’s Sajjad Lone, National Conference MP Aga Ruhullah Mehdi, and BJP's Hina Bhat.\n\nFollowing the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019, the government had invited and facilitated foreign diplomats to visit Kashmir.
