"summary": "Democrats have seized control of both chambers of the U.S. Congress, a result described by Punch as a major defeat for President Donald Trump that establishes two years of divided government. CNBC World characterized the shift as a \"blue wave.\" According to Gulf News, the election results change the political balance in Washington, meaning Trump will no longer have a Republican-controlled Congress to advance his legislative priorities.\n\nThe election featured Democrats capturing seven key Republican-held Senate seats, including wins in states that had strongly supported Trump in 2024. Gulf News reports that economic anxiety was viewed as the most important underlying factor in the election, noting that The Washington Post cited inflation, household expenses, and the economy as drivers of voter dissatisfaction. NPR described the outcome as a fundamental change in the political power structure in Washington.\n\nAmong the individual winners noted by CBS News was Michigan Democratic Representative Hillary Scholten, who won reelection. Gulf News reports that Democrats are expected to focus on five areas during the remainder of the presidency, including using congressional investigations and subpoena powers to look into presidential conduct, government contracts, conflicts of interest, immigration enforcement, and federal spending.",
