"account": "The Goa government has petitioned the Supreme Court to increase Tarun Tejpal's 10-year prison sentence for the 2013 rape of a journalist. The state argues that the current punishment is \"manifestly inadequate\" and \"grossly disproportionate\" to the severity of the crimes. Tejpal, former editor-in-chief of Tehelka magazine, was convicted of aggravated rape and other offenses. The Goa government contends that the High Court's decision to impose the sentences concurrently is unjust and fails to adequately reflect the gravity of the offenses. They urge the Supreme Court to consider a life sentence or a fitting alternative that does not allow for concurrent sentencing. The state emphasizes that the passage of time cannot lessen the victim's trauma and that the delay in justice should not be used as a mitigating factor for the offender.",
