"account": "Nintendo's primary Switch cartridge manufacturer, Macronix, is set to cease ROM production for its gaming consoles, according to recent reports. Macronix CEO Miin Wu revealed this change during a company update, stating that the decision is driven by a growing demand for NOR flash memory used in data centers. The company has experienced a 39% decline in ROM sales over the past year, accounting for just 5% of total sales, down from 26% this time last year.\n\nMacronix primarily supplies ROM chips for Nintendo's Switch 1 and Switch 2 cartridges, but this departure could negatively impact the availability of physical media. However, Nintendo's reliance on Macronix for ROM production isn't the sole supplier. Other entities also contribute to cartridge manufacturing, including NAND flash memory for the upcoming Switch 2. Notably, this change doesn't affect Switch 2 cartridges, as they utilize a different memory type that Macronix isn't phasing out.\n\nThe digital game market is experiencing a significant shift, with digital downloads comprising 61.5% of Nintendo's software sales, compared to 85% on Sony PlayStation and 96% on Xbox. As physical media sales continue to decline, this development might further accelerate the transition to digital content in the gaming industry.",
