"account": "Vice President JD Vance attributes Republicans' loss in the 2026 US midterm elections to the ongoing war in Iran, stating the conflict has cost the party control of Congress. In a lengthy post on X, Vance argued that any honest discussion about the party's future must begin with the war, while citing President Trump's acknowledgment of its impact. The results handed Democrats control of both the Senate and the House of Representatives, setting up a divided government for the final two years of Trump's presidency. Vance cited inflation, the America First agenda, and the US relationship with Israel as other key issues shaping voters' decisions. Democrats made significant gains across the country, particularly in states and districts that had heavily supported Trump in 2024. The Associated Press attributed the election to voter frustration over high prices, the Iran war, and concerns about government corruption. Democrats now hold the reins of Congress, enabling them to intensify oversight of the Trump administration, challenge nominees, and work towards reversing parts of the Republican legislative agenda. Hakeem Jeffries, the House Democratic Leader, vowed to deliver on the \"dramatic change\" voters demanded, aiming for a more confrontational period of governing as the party's strategy is reassessed ahead of the next presidential election.",
