"account": "The African Democratic Congress has urged Nigerians to learn lessons from the recent United States midterm elections, where the Democratic Party secured control of both chambers of Congress. The party believes that the US results demonstrate the power of the ballot box in holding political leaders accountable.\n\nThe ADC emphasizes that the people hold the ultimate authority and that political power ultimately belongs to citizens. The party's statement highlights that when politicians become arrogant, policies punish ordinary people, and those in power mistake popularity for a permanent license to govern, the people retain the ability to effect change through the electoral process.\n\nThe ADC further notes that the US voters have learned that elections are about the welfare of citizens, not sentiments, political loyalties, or personality cults. They assert that no leader is above the will of the people, and no political party is entitled to power indefinitely.\n\nThe ADC urges Nigerians to consider their welfare and interests when choosing their leaders in the upcoming elections. They emphasize the need for Nigerians to demand better, especially after enduring years of economic hardship, worsening insecurity, and declining opportunities. The party calls on voters to use their votes to demand improvements in their lives and the overall state of the nation.\n\nKey victories in the US midterm elections include Democrats flipping seats held by Republicans in various states, including South Carolina, North Carolina, Iowa, Kansas, Ohio, Texas, Maine, Georgia, and New Hampshire. The party also highlighted significant wins in key Senate seats, such as in Georgia, where Keisha Lance Bottoms became the first Black woman governor in US history.\n\nWhile Republicans gained some ground in Florida with Byron Donalds becoming the state's first Black governor, Democrats maintained control over other Senate seats, including those held by Jon Ossoff in Georgia and an open seat in New Hampshire. The scale of the Democratic victory was further emphasized when Abdul El-Sayed defeated a Republican in Michigan, making him the first Muslim elected to the upper chamber of Congress.",
