"account": "The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has advised Nigerians to draw lessons from the recent United States midterm elections, where the Democratic Party defeated President Donald Trump's Republican Party to gain control of both chambers of Congress. The ADC believes the US results demonstrate that voters can hold political leaders accountable through their ballots.\n\nIn a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said the American voters' victory highlighted that political power ultimately belongs to citizens. The party emphasized that when leaders become arrogant, policies punish ordinary people, and those in power mistake popularity for a permanent license to govern, the ballot box remains the ultimate tool for accountability.\n\nThe ADC pointed out that despite enduring years of economic hardship, worsening insecurity, and declining opportunities, Nigerians can also use their votes to demand better governance, just as Americans did. They urged voters, especially Nigerians, to consider their welfare and interests when choosing their leaders in the upcoming general elections.\n\nThe Democratic Party's victory in the US elections was marked by significant gains across various states, including South Carolina, North Carolina, Iowa, Kansas, Ohio, Texas, Maine, and others. Notably, Democrats flipped seats previously held by Republicans, securing breakthroughs in several states that Trump had won comfortably in the 2024 elections.\n\nSpecific victories included Democrats capturing the Texas Senate seat, former logger Troy Jackson defeating longtime Republican Senator Susan Collins in Maine, and Adam Hamilton becoming the first Democrat elected to the Senate from Kansas since 1932. In Iowa, Democrats finally elected a senator for the first time since 2008.\n\nThe party also highlighted key wins in Georgia, where former Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms made history by becoming the first Black woman governor of the state. In Florida, despite significant Republican victories, Byron Donalds became the first Black governor, and Ashley Moody retained her Senate seat after a tough Democratic challenge.\n\nWhile Republicans saw some consolation in Florida, where Byron Donalds became the first Black governor, the overall outcome of the US midterm elections underscores the power of the ballot box and the need for citizens to hold their leaders accountable.",
