"account": "DETROIT, Nov 4 — Democrat Abdul El-Sayed declared victory in a US Senate race in Michigan, defeating former Republican legislator Mike Rogers. If confirmed, El-Sayed will become the first Muslim elected to the upper chamber of Congress. At his election headquarters in Detroit, El-Sayed expressed his pride and honor in standing as the state's senator-elect. Despite a last-minute setback, during which Congresswoman Haley Stevens backed Rogers at the last moment, El-Sayed secured a win in Michigan. The physician, 42, rallied voters with promises of universal health care, addressing the struggles of cash-strapped voters, and advocating to overhaul America's for-profit medical system. During the campaign, El-Sayed drew large crowds, even in traditionally conservative Republican districts. He also vowed to \"get money out of politics\" and tackle the economic hardships facing voters who desire a political newcomer to disrupt the current status quo. Upon winning, El-Sayed will be the first Democratic doctor in the Senate since 1969.",
