"account": "Greenland's parliament formally approved a security agreement with the United States on Tuesday, averting President Donald Trump's plans to take control of the vast Arctic island. The Inatsisartut voted unanimously in favor of the agreement, with 16 members supporting it, seven abstaining, and none opposing. Signed by Trump, Danish and Greenlandic leaders in New York in September, the deal permits the U.S. to construct two military bases in Greenland. It also prohibits non-EU and non-NATO countries from establishing a presence in strategic sectors, aiming to prevent China or Russia from gaining influence, especially through investments. As an autonomous territory of Denmark, Greenland's Danish parliament is set to ratify the agreement on November 19. Since his return to the presidency in January 2025, Trump has repeatedly emphasized the strategic importance of controlling Greenland, causing concern among NATO ally Denmark and other partners. Trump claims the deal would facilitate massive oil, gas, and mineral exploration in Greenland, while the EU unveiled a strategy to strengthen its presence in the Arctic region.",
