"account": "The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has discovered an alleged illegal oil refinery in the Ogere area of Ogun State, linked to Chinese nationals. The facility was found on October 31, 2026, by Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 following intelligence and surveillance. EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale stated the facility was empty when they arrived, following raids on four other illegal lithium-processing plants. Inside, they found waste materials from oil refining, underground tanks for processing, and substances suspected to be Automotive Gas Oil (AGO, or diesel). Preliminary findings suggest the operators obtained sludge oil from Warri and Port Harcourt before transporting it to Ogere for processing. They heated the sludge oil, allowing lighter petroleum components to pass through, allegedly to produce diesel for sale in Nigeria. Chinese nationals operated the facility, but refused to reveal their identities or the company name. The EFCC has taken control of the site while investigations determine the operators' identities, facility ownership, and the extent of the illegal activities.",
