In an interview on TV3's Daily Brief on November 3, 2026, Basingbie explained that Immigration officers were attempting to halt the smugglers when tragedy struck. The tricycle rider carrying the explosives fled the scene, leading to a collision that resulted in the death of one Immigration officer and the rider. Additionally, another smuggler injured during the incident also died, bringing the total fatalities to three - the Immigration officer, the tricycle rider, and the injured smuggler.
