"account": "Randy Flores, the new general manager of the Houston Astros, spoke to the media alongside owner Jim Crane following his introduction at a press conference on November 2, 2026. Flores, a former major league pitcher, transitioned to a front office career after his playing days ended. He noted that his competitive nature drives him to excel in his new role, which involves leading the Astros' baseball operations department.\n\nCrane emphasized that the team has always invested in winning, and Flores expressed his gratitude for the pressure and the goal of winning. The Astros interviewed eight or nine candidates for the GM position, with Flores ultimately being chosen for his extensive experience across all areas of baseball and his blend of traditional feel and analytics. He has experience in scouting, player acquisition, salary arbitration, and player development, roles that he has expanded upon during his 11 seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals.\n\nFlores aims to provide a unified voice and strategy for the team, focusing on the business side of baseball operations while staying hands-on in decision-making. He will also lead the search for a new manager to replace Joe Espada, an immediate priority for the Astros.",
