"summary": "Uganda has begun withdrawing troops from Somalia after 20 years of peace and stabilization support operations, with the first batch of soldiers returning home. The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) announced this on November 2, 2026, stating that the operation will be completed by the end of 2027, allowing the Somali Armed Forces to take full responsibility for security in the country. The UPDF deployed its first troops to Somalia in March 2007 under the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) to support the Somali government in its fight against the al-Shabaab militant group.",
