"summary": "Uganda has begun withdrawing its troops from Somalia, according to a press statement issued by the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) on November 2, 2026. The first batch of soldiers has already returned home, with the remaining forces expected to withdraw completely by the end of 2027. This marks the end of a 20-year peace and stabilization support mission in Somalia, allowing the Somali Armed Forces to take full responsibility for security in the country. The UPDF stated that the withdrawal will involve all troops deployed under bilateral arrangements with the Federal Government, including those serving under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).",
