"account": "The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has initiated interviews for the Chief Kadhi position. Of the nine shortlisted candidates, they will appear before the Commission for evaluations. This comes after the death of Sheikh Athman Abdul-Halim Hussein, who held the post until his demise in July of last year. Sheikh Sukyan Omar Hassan has been in an acting capacity since August 2025.\n\nInitially advertised on January 16, 2026, the recruitment process has faced criticism for delays. The JSC has been under scrutiny due to the prolonged absence of a substantive Chief Kadhi. This has raised concerns among stakeholders in the Muslim community and the legal fraternity, who fear the role's weakening influence and leadership amid increasing demand for Kadhi's Courts services.\n\nThe Chief Kadhi, as per Article 170 (1) of the Constitution of Kenya, serves as the Head of Kadhi's Courts within the Judiciary. To qualify for the position, applicants must hold a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline, possess a degree in Islamic Law or its equivalent, profess the Muslim faith, demonstrate good conduct, proficiency in English, Kiswahili, and Arabic, membership in a recognized Islamic Association, and computer application skills.\n\nThe successful candidate, reporting to the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary, will earn a gross monthly salary ranging from KSh531,675 to KSh783,146 under permanent and pensionable terms.",
