"account": "After 35 years, the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Western Sahara is set to conclude, according to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. Morocco, which asserts sovereignty over the region, welcomed the decision, while the Polisario Front, backed by Algeria, expressed concern. The peacekeeping mission, known as MINURSO, began in 1991 following a UN-brokered ceasefire. The mission's mandate was not renewed by the Security Council, with the US-drafted resolution accepted by Morocco and the Russian veto blocking a competing resolution in favor of the UN's preference for the Moroccan plan. MINURSO's role included monitoring the ceasefire and organizing a referendum, which has never taken place due to voter eligibility disagreements.",
