"summary": "Eight people have tragically died and others are fighting for their lives following a series of crashes on Victoria's roads during the Melbourne Cup long weekend. The incidents involved a mix of motor vehicles, including cars, motorcycles, e-bikes, and a ute, with a variety of fatalities and injuries reported. Investigations are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding each of the accidents, with police urging witnesses and anyone with CCTV footage to come forward. The Transport Accident Commission reported that 220 lives have been lost on the state's roads so far this year, slightly lower than the 247 lives lost at this time last year. Authorities have warned motorists to reduce their speed during the Melbourne Cup long weekend, as nearly one in three fatalities were attributed to speeding.",
