"account": "The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the appointment of Nigerian football administrator Samson Adamu as its new General Secretary. This change follows the resignation of Veron Mosengo-Omba to become the president of the football federation in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Adamu, who has been with CAF for eight years, served as acting General Secretary since March 2026. Patrice Motsepe, CAF President, confirmed that the appointment was made after a thorough selection process involving multiple candidates, with Adamu emerging as the most suitable candidate. As General Secretary, Adamu's responsibilities will include overseeing administrative operations, implementing CAF's policies, coordinating football development across member associations, and managing the organization's tournaments and events. His extensive background in CAF, including roles as Director of Competitions and Director of Tournaments and Events, will be crucial in guiding the continental body's strategic direction. This appointment marks a significant move for CAF as it seeks to enhance governance, tournament management, and commercial opportunities within African football.",
