"account": "PDF files are often praised for their ease of document sharing, but editing existing text, fixing scanned documents, or converting complicated PDFs into Word formats can be a frustrating experience. I have usually returned to Adobe Acrobat for these tasks, as most free alternatives either lack essential features or compromise on formatting. This time, I subjected several free PDF tools to rigorous testing, using the same tasks that typically prompt me to return to Acrobat. While the majority left me disappointed, PDFgear emerged as the only alternative that came close to meeting my expectations. Several free PDF tools can handle basic tasks such as merging PDFs, deleting pages, highlighting text, or adding signatures. However, these are not the complex jobs that force me to use Adobe Acrobat. To explore these demanding tasks, I tested PDFgear, PDF24, Sejda, Stirling PDF, LibreOffice Draw, and many others. My focus was on actual document editing, OCR, file conversions, and page management. I also considered usability and restrictions. PDFgear stood out due to its offline functionality, cross-platform availability, and absence of hidden premium features or watermarks. After uploading a complex 10-page annual report with financial tables, charts, images, hyperlinks, and interactive forms, I found PDFgear to be the most reliable among the free options. It handled text editing, annotations, image insertion, form filling, and compression seamlessly. While its user interface could benefit from a more modern design, PDFgear's functionality, simplicity, and reliability made it a worthy contender against Adobe Acrobat for my everyday PDF needs.",
