"account": "Opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Director Dennis Miracles Aboagye has harshly criticized the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) government for its dismal performance in combating illegal mining, commonly referred to as galamsey. Aboagye pointed out that the government's track record should be judged against the promises it made to Ghanaians, emphasizing that the persisting galamsey activities indicate a complete failure to meet its commitments. He emphasized the government's responsibility to deliver on its promises, claiming it has spectacularly fallen short. Aboagye showcased bottles of polluted water sourced from rivers ravaged by galamsey as evidence of this failure. He also dismissed attempts to bring former President Nana Akufo-Addo into the discussion on the current state of illegal mining, urging that the focus remain solely on the present administration's performance. Aboagye made these remarks during an appearance on JoyNews' Newsfile programme on Saturday, October 31, as public discourse continues about the government's efforts to tackle illegal mining. He voiced these critiques as the nation debates the efficacy of measures put in place to curb galamsey and the ongoing environmental damage resulting from illegal mining activities.",
