"summary": "German police were deployed across the country on Saturday, October 31, 2026, as shops boarded up windows ahead of planned youth protests. The demonstrations, which are expected to draw tens of thousands of young people, involve approximately 34 cities. According to DW News, the participants are calling for a greater political say and a more hopeful future.\n\nThe protests are being organized through a social media campaign by the youth initiative Gen Z regelt (Gen Z sorts it). The group is directly organizing demonstrations in Berlin, Cologne, Frankfurt, and Munich, with additional protests occurring in about 30 other cities. Organizers stated that the movement focuses on demanding more climate protection and rejecting military conscription.\n\nWhile Gen Z regelt has explicitly called for peaceful protests to avoid the violence seen in recent French demonstrations, certain conservative politicians from Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s Christian Democrats (CDU) have warned that similar scenes could occur. In response, the youth initiative criticized this focus on violence, stating it reinforces their feeling that they are not being taken seriously.",
