"account": "Knikita Kucherov, the Lightning's top star for over a decade, has informed the team that he will not re-sign with them and is requesting a trade, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman. This shocking development has left many surprised, as Kucherov seemed destined to remain a Lightning player for his entire career. Despite the team's strong start to the season, with an 8-3-1 record and third place in the Atlantic Division, Kucherov's desire to leave remains.\n\nThe Lightning will likely feel the impact of losing Kucherov, a successful 33-year-old who is set to enter the final season of his contract with a $9.5 million cap hit. As a top forward in the NHL, Kucherov's next contract is likely to command a significant raise. With a 10-team trade list, Kucherov has considerable influence over his potential destination.\n\nIn just 12 games this season, Kucherov has already demonstrated his value, scoring four goals and adding 15 points while maintaining a plus-2 rating. His impressive performance during the 2025-26 season further solidifies his status as a key player for any team fortunate enough to acquire him.",
