"account": "President Donald Trump's administration has targeted a long-standing political practice in the Alaska Senate race, which involves recruiting candidates with the same name as their opponents. This tactic has been used in American politics for decades, with one notable example occurring in 1946 when Joe Russo, a four-term Boston city councilman, ran for a congressional seat against a 27-year-old janitor with the same name. The practice allegedly played a role in a current race in Alaska, where Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan is facing three other challengers. One of those challengers is a retired school teacher named Daniel J. Sullivan Jr., who has been accused of being a Democratic plant. The Trump administration has taken a legal step to prevent the certification of a potential victory for the Democratic candidate, Mary Peltola, until it can be determined if voters were misled by the scheme. Critics argue that Trump has been using the Justice Department as an extension of his personal political operation, investigating and intervening in elections in ways never seen before in modern times. However, Justice Department officials maintain that they are \"following the facts and the law, not anyone's political timetable.\" The use of so-called \"spoiler\" candidates is a tactic that Trump's political operation has employed in other elections, such as in Ohio and Nevada. This practice has raised concerns about the integrity of the electoral process, particularly in states with unusual voting systems like Alaska's ranked-choice voting method.",
