"summary": "Nigeria has successfully secured a seat on the Board of the World Association of Industrial and Technological Research Organisations (WAITRO), with the election of Director-General of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council, Prof. Nnanyelugo Ike-Muonso, as the Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Representative. The election took place at the WAITRO Summit held in Istanbul, Türkiye, from October 26 to 28, 2026, where Ike-Muonso defeated two other candidates. This achievement positions Nigeria to have a more prominent voice in the global research and technology community, allowing for greater influence on discussions surrounding scientific research, technology transfer, innovation, and industrial development across Sub-Saharan Africa.",
