"account": "Sonny Gray has declined his mutual option, opening up free agency for the experienced starting pitcher. Three teams stand out as potential destinations for Gray: the Atlanta Braves, Chicago Cubs, and San Diego Padres.\n\nThe Atlanta Braves, despite a strong showing in 2026, lack the depth in their rotation that could have helped them in the postseason. Adding Gray would provide the Braves with a reliable starter to pair with Chris Sale, giving the team a strong foundation for a deep playoff run.\n\nThe Chicago Cubs, who lost in the NL Wild Card to the Padres, need another top-tier starter to complement their offensive powerhouse. With a lineup capable of carrying games, Gray's experience and consistency would bolster their rotation and improve their chances of advancing further in the postseason.\n\nThe San Diego Padres, facing the possibility of losing starting pitcher Michael King in free agency, would benefit greatly from Gray's addition. If King departs, Gray could step in as a reliable veteran presence in the rotation. Even if King stays, Gray would provide the Padres with the stability needed for a strong top-of-the-rotation lineup.",

After stops with the Athletics, Yankees, Twins, and Red Sox, Gray enjoyed some of his best seasons in the NL with the Cincinnati Reds and St. Louis Cardinals. A return to the National League could make sense. […] The post Ranking 3 best Sonny Gray free…",
