"summary": "Elena Rybakina secured the year-end women's singles number one ranking following a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Yulia Putintseva at the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo. According to Free Malaysia Today and New Straits Times, the Moscow-born Kazakh reached the top of the rankings for the first time last month by winning the US Open, replacing Aryna Sabalenka. This achievement follows a season in which she also won the Australian Open and her fourth title of the year at the Ningbo Open.\n\nDespite clinching the top ranking, Rybakina withdrew from the Pan Pacific Open on Friday due to a neck injury. Free Malaysia Today and New Straits Times report that the 27-year-old was scheduled to face Leylah Fernandez in the quarter-finals but appeared on court only to address the crowd and sign autographs. Rybakina stated she has been struggling with the injury for a couple of days and intends to return for the WTA Finals in Indian Wells next month.",
