"summary": "Communications Minister Sam George has been appointed as the Chair of the African Union Specialised Technical Committee on Communication and ICT (AU STC-ICT) during its 6th Ordinary Session held in Libreville, Gabon. In his opening remarks, George emphasized the importance of the chairmanship as a duty to the entire African Union, highlighting the need for stronger continental cooperation to accelerate Africa's digital transformation. He called for a shift from policy development to implementation, noting that while the continent already has key frameworks on digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and data governance, the lack of collective will has hindered progress. George stressed that Africa must take a more active role in shaping the global digital economy, focusing on critical areas such as connectivity, data governance, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence.",
