"account": "British comedian Russell Brand appeared in court for his rape trial on Monday, denying all allegations against him. The 51-year-old, who shot to fame in the 2000s as a television and radio presenter, now advocates conservative and faith-based views, and has gained a large following on social media. He pleaded not guilty to rape, sexual assault, and attempted indecent assault charges, all dating back to between 1999 and 2009.\n\nDuring proceedings at Southwark Crown Court, Brand stated that consent is \"fundamental\" to sexual relations, insisting that the women had consented to sex with him. He claimed to remember some details of the alleged incidents, particularly the first accusation of rape in 1999. Brand admitted he was \"extremely promiscuous\" at the time and often engaged in sexual activity with strangers, including in toilets. He also admitted engaging in consensual anal sex with a 21-year-old woman in 2009 but denied the other allegations, describing them as \"disgusting behavior\". The maximum sentence for rape in Britain is life imprisonment. The jury will consider its verdict next week.",
