"account": "Apple has officially launched its touchscreen MacBook Pro lineup, catapulting laptop prices to new heights. The new models start at an eye-watering $2,899, but the top-of-the-line configuration with all possible upgrades costs around $14,549. MacRumors first reported on the pricing, with Apple's configurator listing the fully-loaded 14-inch model at $14,249 and the 16-inch version at $14,549.\n\nBoth models boast Apple's flagship M5 Max chip featuring an 18-core CPU and 40-core GPU, a testament to the ongoing memory shortage and AI's voracious hardware demand. Upgrading to a 4TB SSD costs an extra $1,000, while a 8TB upgrade adds another $3,000. If you opt for the 16TB option, you'll be shelling out an additional $7,000.\n\nAdding 128GB of memory sets you back $2,000, while nano-texture glass on the lid comes at a premium of $150. To put this into perspective, the previous 16-inch MacBook Pro maxed out at $10,149, and the new pricing bumps that ceiling by an impressive $4,400.\n\nThis marks a significant shift for Apple, nearly a decade after it experimented with the Touch Bar, which it eventually abandoned. Preorders for the new touchscreen MacBook Pro open on October 30, with availability beginning on November 6.",
