"summary": "City of Hope held its annual Spirit of Life gala on Tuesday, Oct. 27, at the Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles. The organization honored Primary Wave founder and CEO Larry Mestel during the event. Mestel described the award as a call to action rather than just an honor. During his speech, Mestel referred to Dr. Leo Wang, a doctor working with City of Hope, as \"the real rock star tonight,\" noting that while he buys music catalogs, Wang cures cancer in children.\n\nThe gala featured performances by Stevie Nicks, Jackson Browne, and Melissa Etheridge, all of whom have professional connections to Mestel and Primary Wave. Pete Townshend provided a virtual performance from his home because a medical reason prevented him from attending in person.",
